Challenge

Dog bites are a leading cause of reported safety incidents for gig economy delivery apps. I helped create a product feature to help solve the high incident rate of aggressive pets.

"More than 4 million dog bite attacks occur every year in the United States. Delivery persons encounter hundreds of dogs on delivery routes every day."

Step 1: Market Research

I began looking at insights and similar industries like mail and delivery apps to identify common patterns related to safety and delivery.

Step 2: User research

Next, I identified common pain points for delivery drivers and their concerns when delivering to residences where aggressive pets are located. I used Reddit forums to see what user sentiment was around the topic.

Step 3: User Flow

Before creating designs, I looked at the complete app flow for checking out. I identified potential placements where an app feature could be implemented and create awareness.

Step 4: Creating Solutions

In this step, I started brainstorming and creating possible solutions to present to a Safety Working group. Below are three options for the same step in the user flow. Each has its own pros and cons that could be tested and discussed.

Step 5: Design

I created multiple design ideas to present and get feedback on. I used components from the design system and followed technical documentation for usage. The next step is a presentation with stakeholders on the best way forward. If one of the designs is accepted, we will move on to a roadmap for Q4'22.
